Internet strategy, online marketing, web operations

Currently, I am looking for a position as an internet director or vice president, preferably in Austin, TX. I am a senior digital strategy manager with global experience (incl. Fortune 500) in online marketing, web implementation and internet operations.

I am open for freelance and consulting projects with interesting scope and objectives.

Senior Manager vs. Developer

I love my profession as an online marketing manager and web strategist, I am proud of the achievements as senior internet manager (VP / Director level), and I don't want to change.

As a vice president, you have to deal with strategies, manage teams and juggle goals and projects. Getting sufficient resources (people, budget, time) and defining goals with the C-level team are part of the job. Company politics, people and relationship management, negotiating skills and a clear vision of where the company should be in the future and how to use the internet to get there are essential to perform.

It is, therefore, important not only to have these management skills and experiences, but to also have a good overview and some knowledge in most of the areas of the internet, from SEO, SEM and usability up to the integration with mobile, email, print event, pr, market research, branding and positioning. Having a good deal of 'business acumen' or simply the desire to make good money for a long time while enjoying working with others is important, too.

When developing strategies and requirements and in dealing with teams and customers, it is helpful not just to have an overview but to understand the technology everything is based upon. It helps tremendously to appreciate the efforts of my teams and to realistically estimate times and budgets necessary to implement tasks.

This is why I have built these pages myself from scratch after 10 years of abstaining from developing sites myself. It reminds me how competent, persistent and dedicated my colleagues are, who do this at the core of their individual professions.

Value added

This helps me in even more ways: I refresh html and css knowledge. I check out Google Analytics in-depth with outbound links, goals and funnels. I run several sites and blogs with just a few posts instead of concentrating on one so I can monitor and analyze linking and networking effects. I can experiment with SEM- and SEO-specific analytics tools I have not used before since there are new ones every day. And it is a safe haven for trying out various social net tips and tricks, blogs and rumors.
